Stories on Facebook allow you to share photos and videos with your friends and followers that will only be available to your selected audience for 24 hours.

After 24 hours, you can keep the stories you've shared in your story archive, which will only be visible to you.

You can share to your story from Facebook or Messenger. You can also share stories for groups, events or Pages. Learn more about how stories work.

Sharing Stories
These are instructions for sharing to your personal story on Facebook. Learn more about Page stories or group stories.
Your story is a way of sharing a photo or video with your friends or followers that will be available for 24 hours.
When you add a photo or video to your Facebook story, it can be seen across both Facebook and Messenger. You can always control who can see your story.
To share to your story:
  1. From your News Feed, go to the Stories section in the top right and click + Add to Your Story.
  2. Type an update, or click Photo/Video to add a photo or video from your computer.
  3. Next to Your Story, you can click the audience selector (example: Public or Friends) to choose who can see your story.
  4. Click Share.

To share a News Feed post to your story, log into the Facebook mobile app for iOS or Android.
When you see a post in your News Feed, you may be able to share that post to your story on Facebook.
Depending on the privacy settings of the original post, you may not see the option to share it. Learn how to choose who can see your posts.
To share a News Feed post to your story:
  1. Below a post in your News Feed, tap .
  2. Select + Share to Your Story.
  3. The post will appear on your story. You can tap to change the style, tap and hold to move it, or use two fingers to rotate it or change the size.
  4. To add more information, you can tap Aa to add text, to add a sticker, or to draw something.
  5. Tap Next. Select your audience, then tap Share Now.
When you share the post to your story, your friends can tap it to see the original post or video.
Keep in mind that if the original post is deleted, the post will also be removed from your story and your story archive.

To share an event to your story, log into the Facebook app for iOS or Android.
When you share an event to your story on Facebook, your friends can tap to see event details, and can respond (example: Interested or Going) directly from your story.
To share an event to your story:
  1. Open the Facebook app for iOS or Android.
  2. Tap More then tap Events and select the event you'd like to share. Only upcoming public events can be shared.
  3. Tap Share, then select Share to Your Story.
  4. The event will appear on your story. You can tap and hold to move it, or use two fingers to rotate it or change the size.
  5. To add more information, you can tap Aa to add text, to add a sticker, or to draw something.
  6. Tap Next. Select your audience, then tap Share Now.

When you view your story, you can see a list of your friends who responded to the event. Tap Message to start a new group message thread with these friends about the event.

When you share something to your story, it appears in the following places:
  • At the top of Facebook News Feed: Your story will appear in the Stories section at the top of your friends' or followers' News Feed on Facebook.
  • At the top of Messenger: Your story will appear in a row at the top of your Messenger inbox.
Your stories will be visible to your selected audience for 24 hours. Any photos or videos you add to your story on Facebook will also appear in your story on Messenger.
Stories can be viewed on the Facebook and Messenger apps, Facebook Lite and www.facebook.com.
Note: If you share your Instagram story to Facebook, it will also appear as a story at the top of your News Feed in Facebook and in the Messenger app. Keep in mind that any Instagram story you share to Facebook and Messenger will use your existing story privacy settings you've chosen in the Facebook or Messenger app.

Each photo or video you share to your story is available in the Stories section on Facebook and the Messenger app for 24 hours.
After 24 hours, you can keep the stories you've shared in your story archive, which will only be visible to you.
When you go Live, the video will be available in your story for as long as you're live.

To delete a photo or video you've added to your story on Facebook:
  1. Go to the Stories section in the top right of your News Feed.
  2. Click Your Story at the top.
  3. Click to find the photo or video you want to delete.
  4. Click Story options in the top right.
  5. Click Delete Photo or Delete Video.
Keep in mind that when you delete a photo or video from your story on Facebook, it will also be deleted from Messenger. Any changes you make to your story will update across both apps.
If you see someone else's story that you don't want to see, you can mute their story so it doesn't show up in your Stories section.

To see birthday stories, log into the Facebook app for iOS or Android.
When it's your birthday, a shared birthday story is created on Facebook where you and your friends can add photos, videos, birthday cards and memories throughout the day.
Birthday stories will show up at the top of your News Feed (example: [Friend's Name]'s Birthday).
Your birthday story is only visible to your selected audience. You can always change your birthday story privacy settings to control whether people can see or add to your birthday story.
After your birthday, if your story archive is turned on, your birthday story will be saved to your archive.

To add music to your story, log into the Facebook app for iOS or Android.
When you share a photo or video to your story on Facebook, you can add a clip of a song that will play during your story.

To add music to your story:
  1. Open the Facebook app for iOS or Android.
  2. Tap + Add to Story at the top of your News Feed.
  3. Add your photo or video. You can tap the bottom left to choose a photo or video from your camera roll, or tap the bottom right to take a new photo or video using the camera.
  4. Tap , then tap MUSIC.
  5. Find a song. You can tap Search music to find a specific song, or tap a genre that you like. To preview a song before you add it to your story, tap . When you find your song, tap Add.
  6. Drag the slider left or right to select a clip from the song.
  7. Tap Done in the top right.
  8. The song will appear on your story. You can tap to change the style, tap and hold to move it, or use two fingers to rotate it or change the size. To remove the song, drag it to at the bottom of the screen.
  9. Tap Share to Story.

To choose music before you record a video:
  1. Open the Facebook app for iOS or Android.
  2. Tap + Add to Story at the top of your News Feed.
  3. Tap the bottom right of your screen to open the camera.
  4. Tap MUSIC in the bottom right.
  5. Find a song. You can tap Search music to find a specific song, or tap a genre that you like. To preview a song before you add it to your story, tap . When you find your song, tap Add.
  6. Drag the slider left or right to select a clip from the song.
  7. Tap Start to record your video.
  8. Once you record your video, the song will appear on your story. You can tap to change the style, tap and hold to move it, or use two fingers to rotate it or change the size. To remove the song, drag it to at the bottom of the screen.
  9. Tap Share to Story.

To add a sticker to your story, log into the Facebook mobile app for iOS or Android.
When you share a photo or video to your story on Facebook, you can add stickers to express yourself in unique ways. You can add music, polls, locations, feelings and other information to your story using stickers.
To add a sticker to your story:
  1. Open the Facebook app for iOS or Android.
  2. Tap + Add to Story at the top of your News Feed.
  3. Add your photo or video. You can tap the bottom left to choose a photo or video from your camera roll, or tap the bottom right to take a new photo or video using the camera.
  4. Tap to add a sticker.
  5. To edit most stickers, you can tap to change the style, tap and hold to move it, or use two fingers to rotate it or change the size. To remove a sticker, drag it to at the bottom of the screen.
  6. Tap Share to Story.

Note: If you're not seeing certain stickers you'd like to use (example: music or polls), make sure your app is updated to the latest version by visiting the App Store or Google Play Store.

To add a poll to your story, use the Facebook mobile app for iOS or Android.
When you add a poll to your story on Facebook, you can ask a question, customize the answers and let people vote for their favorite option.
To add a poll to your story:
  1. Open the Facebook mobile app for iOS or Android.
  2. At the top of your News Feed, tap + Add to Story.
  3. Add your photo or video. You can tap at the bottom of your screen to take a new photo or video, or tap to upload a photo or video from your camera roll.
  4. Tap in the top right, then tap POLL.
  5. Type your question, then tap Yes or No to customize the answers.
  6. Tap Done in the top right.
  7. Tap Next, then select the audience for your story and tap Share Now.

Poll Results
People can respond to your poll by tapping an option you've provided. When someone selects an answer, they can see realtime results of your poll.
When you view your story and swipe up, you can see how many votes each option received and how each person voted.

To add text to your story, log into the Facebook app for iOS or Android.
To add text to a photo or video in your story on Facebook:
  1. Open the Facebook app for iOS or Android.
  2. At the top of your News Feed, tap + Add to Story.
  3. Add your photo or video. You can tap the bottom left to choose a photo or video from your camera roll, or tap the bottom right to take a new photo or video using the camera.
  4. Tap Aa in the top right, then add your text. You can also:
    • Tap the font name in the bottom right (example: Headline, Classic, Fancy) see different fonts.
    • Tap the colored circle on the left to change your text color.
    • Tap to change your text alignment.
    • Tap to add a solid or transparent background to your text. Tap again to remove it.
  5. Tap Done in the top right.
  6. After you add your text, you can tap and hold to move it, or use two fingers to rotate it or change the size. To remove your text, drag it to at the bottom of the screen.
  7. Tap Share to Story.

To add a location to your story, log into the Facebook app for iOS or Android.
When you share a photo or video to your story on Facebook, you can add your location to tell people you're at a specific place, like a museum or a restaurant.
To add a location to your story:
  1. Open the Facebook app for iOS or Android.
  2. Tap in the top left of your screen.
  3. Tap to take a new photo or video, or tap Camera Roll to add a photo or video from your phone.
  4. Tap in the top right, then tap LOCATION.
  5. Search for the place you'd like to tag, then select your location.
  6. The location will appear on your story. You can tap to change the style, tap and hold to move it, or use two fingers to rotate it or change the size.
  7. Tap Next.
  8. Select your audience, then tap Share Now.

Viewing Stories
You can only reply or react to stories shared by your friends on Facebook.
To reply or react to someone's story:
  1. From your News Feed, go to the Stories section in the top right.
  2. Click to view a story.
  3. To reply, click Write a reply... at the bottom of the story. To send a reaction, click an emoji.
Note: Replies and reactions to someone's story can only be seen by the story's owner and the person replying.

When you mute a story from a person, Page or group, their story will no longer appear in the Stories section at the top of your News Feed. Only you can see when you mute or unmute someone's story.
To mute a story:
  1. Go to the Stories section in the top right of your News Feed.
  2. Click a story from the person, Page or group you'd like to mute.
  3. Click Story options in the top right of their story.
  4. Click Mute [Username].
To unmute a story:
  1. Go to the Stories section in the top right of your News Feed.
  2. Click Story options in the top right of the Stories section.
  3. Click Stories You've Muted.
  4. Click Unmute next to the name of the person, Page or group.
Keep in mind that muting someone's story is different from unfriending or unfollowing them. When you mute someone's story, you will still remain friends with them, and you'll still see their posts in your News Feed.

Notifications about stories follow your other notification settings on Facebook. For example, if your notifications for Close Friend activity are turned on, you'll get notifications about stories from people on your Close Friends list.

If you see a photo or video in a story and think it goes against our Community Standards, you can report it:
  1. From your News Feed, go to the Stories section in the top right and click to open the story.
  2. Click to find the photo or video you want to report.
  3. Click Story options in the top right.
  4. Click Give Feedback or Report Story, then follow the on-screen instructions.

Privacy Settings
Anything you add to your story will appear on Facebook and Messenger, and will be shared with the same audience across both apps.
You can always control who you share your story with, and you can change these settings anytime.
To change your story privacy settings:
  1. Add a photo or video to share to your story.
  2. Tap Privacy in the bottom left, then select your audience:
    • Public: Your Facebook friends, followers and people you've chatted with on Messenger will see your stories. Anyone who follows you can see your story, but only people you're friends with can reply.
    • Friends and connections: Your Facebook friends and Messenger connections will see your stories.
    • Friends: Only your Facebook friends will see your story on Facebook and the Messenger app. Your Messenger connections will not see your story.
    • Custom: You can select specific people who will be able to see your stories.

To hide your story from specific people:
  1. Open the Facebook app for iOS or Android.
  2. Add a photo or video to share to your story.
  3. Tap Privacy in the bottom left.
  4. Below Who can see your story? tap to select Friends and connections or Friends.
  5. Tap Hide Story From.
  6. Tap to select the people you'd like to hide your story from, then tap Done.
If you've placed someone on your Restricted list, they won't be able to see your story.
Note: Any changes you make to your story privacy settings will apply to any photos and videos currently in your story in addition to those you add going forward. You can change these settings anytime.

These are instructions for your personal story on Facebook. Learn more about Page stories or group stories.
When you share a photo or video to your story, you can always check to see who has viewed it. Only you are able to see who has viewed your story.
To see who has viewed your story:
  1. From your News Feed, go to the Stories section in the top right.
  2. Click Your Story.
  3. Click in the bottom left of any photo or video in your story. If you don't see this, no one has viewed your story yet.
Your List of Story Viewers
When looking at the list of your story viewers, keep in mind:
  • Your Facebook friends who have viewed your story will be listed first.
  • If your story privacy settings allow Messenger connections, the names of your connections will show up below your list of Facebook friends.
  • If your story privacy is set to Public, you'll be able to see the number of followers who have viewed your story, but not specific follower names.

Story Archive
Stories you create and share on Facebook are only available to your selected audience for 24 hours, but after that they can be saved in your story archive.
When your story archive is turned on, your photos and videos will automatically be archived after they disappear from your story. Only you can see your story archive. You can always turn your archive on or off.
To find your story archive:
  1. From your News Feed, click your name in the top left to go to your profile.
  2. Click Archive.
Note: If you delete a photo or video from your story before it disappears, it won't be saved to your archive.
